I'm Liz Hynes, a Verona native, mom, and professional transportation planner. I'm running for a seat on Verona's non-partisan Town Council because so many of the big issues facing us today - affordable housing, the location and development of our emergency services building, safety on Bloomfield Avenue and our neighborhood streets - are all planning issues. And that is what I do.

Meet Liz

Elizabeth Hynes, AICP CTP, LEED AP has worked as a professional planner since 2001, spending 21 years at Parsons Corporation before moving to her current role as a Vice President for Transportation Planning at WSP USA, a professional services firm specializing in engineering and planning. At WSP, she works with public agencies throughout the eastern U.S., managing the technical, administrative, and financial aspects of transportation planning studies.

When she's not working, Liz is an avid volunteer in and around Verona. She currently serves on Verona's Neighborhood Traffic and Safety Committee and recently presented, together NTSC chair Paul Mickiewicz, a virtual Walkable Communities Workshop discussing the tools available for traffic calming on local streets. She is Co-Treasurer of the Forest SCA and a leader for Girl Scout Troop 20105. Liz is also President of the Board of Trustees of the Montclair History Center, an independent, not-for-profit museum, archive, and library dedicated to preserving local history, educating the community about its importance, and sharing the stories of the people who have shaped our region, including Verona.

Liz received a B.A. in art history from Rutgers College in 1996 and a Master of Regional Planning (MRP) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2001 (and then proceeded to marry a Dookie). She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), an AICP Certified Transportation Planner (CTP), and a Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED)-accredited professional.

Liz is also an alumna of Verona High School (1992), H.B. Whitehorne (1988), and F.N. Brown (1985). She lives in the Forest section of town with her husband Peter, daughter, and a loud-mouthed dog aptly named Boomer.
